Good-bye 2011, hello 2012.

Has it been a whole year already?!

A year ago I was sitting right here, at home in my bedroom, pondering about what 2011 had been all about. Back then I all I though about was how 2010 had been a life-changing year for me. And it was. I couldn't really conceive how things could change even more in 2011. But they did. Oh they did.

If 2010 was a big year for me, then 2011 was HUGE. Every story has its outcome. Everything that began on 2010 came to a conclusion on 2011. The good and the bad. 2011 was a year of endings but also beginnings.

Everything that held me on suspense a year ago is now solved. Just to mention something, I am now in a new city, in a new university, in a new career, in a new apartment with new roommates, with new friends.

Maybe it wasn't full of huge, public accomplishments, but it was packed of gigantic private victories, and I'm really grateful for them and also, proud of myself. And even though to get to where I am today I had to work really, really hard in many ways, one of the biggest things I learned in 2011 (and one of the best advices I've ever received) is to just let things flow. Time really sets things straight.
Whatever 2012 brings, I'm ready.

So, 2011 and everybody who was a part of it, thank you.
Thank you for making me what I am and pushing me to where I am today.

Tonight I'm raising my glass to the old friends, the new friends, the good times, the bad times, to those who left, to those who came (or came back), the future plans, future memories, and to everything and everyone that will be part of my 2012...CHEERS!

2012, let's do this.

Pre-Fall 2012

I'm really, really liking the direction fashion is taking in the pre-fall 2012 collections.
I loved Jenni Kayne simple meets bold look, especially this outfit.

les litas!

My newest illustration: a pair of turquoise litas by Jeffrey Campbell.

I'm craving so badly for a pair of litas. And even when I'd love them in black I have to be realistic and buy shoes that aren't black. Most of my heels are black.
Turquoise would be the perfect choice.
Or maybe a pair of glitter ones.
(sighs and throws a bill into the piggy bank)

I'm opening an Etsy store very soon to sell prints of my illustrations.
Keep tuned!

Bombay-Paris

Chanel's epicness is back!

To be honest I wasn't a huge fan of Chanel's latest collection.
The show was fantastic, the models coming out from the shell and Florence Welch singing live...
but well that's not a plus in a Chanel show, it comes with the package.

But back to the collection, I felt it was  an incoherent show as though
as if Karl Lagerfeld wanted to portray so many ideas that it the clothes went in all sort of different directions and not in a good way.

But this pre-fall collection that showed yesterday at Le Grand Palais in Paris
was a completely different story.
I completely loved it...the chains, the head accessories, the show...
and of course in contrast of all the prettiness a messy bun of dreadlocks and a
massive dose of kohl eyeliner. Hell yeah!

I'm foreseeing lots of hindi motifs in our fashion future.

Long live The Kaiser!

What did you think of the show?

let it be

(watercolor, illustration by me)

A while ago one of my best friends gave one of the best advices I've ever recieved:

Let it be.

And it's not like I had never heard that before, I mean it's a Beatles song, come on, but from time to timewe need to remember it. Sometimes as much as we want to have control over a certain situation we can't, and the best we can do is to trust the universe, to let it be and to let things flow.

Everything will fall into place.

Andy Torres x TedTalk

About two years ago, the instant I stumbled upon Stylescrapbook, Andy Torres' blog it
instantly became one of my favorite, daily bread blogs.
She's not only really stylish, she's mexican, and she is a great inspiration to
all of us, mexican bloggers trying to get our blog out there.

In this TedTalk she breaks down what she thinks it takes for a successful blog.
And well, it certainly worked for her.

Congratulations Andy!

¡Felicidades Andy!

Back to basics...

Even though I'm studying Communication Sciences in my University (and previously did two years of arts), I've always had something for fashion and I have always know I want to do something fashion-related for a living, from editorial, to costume design in filmmaking.
And as time passes by my interest on fashion has only grown bigger and bigger, and even when I decided to graduate in communication, last september I started over in this new University I also decided to take fashion design classes on Saturdays in another school.

I'm learning a lot of things: fashion illustration (I'm learning from zero), confection and about all the different fabrics and how to use them. On January I'll start new classes on stylism,
fashion photography and some more.

Sure, it's quite the extra load of work but it's completely worth it.
I can't wait to be able to create my own garments!

Nº 5

(painting by me, acrylics on canvas)

Hello, hello!

I'm finally off school!!!!!
The Christmas countdown has officially begun!

I've been meaning to make a painting for my room for forever but finals hadn't let me,
so today I finally got to do it. I had no idea what to paint (I even have an "painting inspiration
board on pinterest). I wanted something fashion related but something simple and not so saturated.
My rooms is quite small so I'm trying to decorate it in a way that it doesn't
make it look even smaller. (Don't even get me started on my closet.)

I ended up painting a bottle of the iconic and legendary Chanel Nº 5.
I love the bottle's design. It's really simple yet elegant.
And I love the commercials/shortfilms for Chanel Nº 5.

This one's my favorite.

So, what do you think??
I spent the whole day making some other illustrations too, I'll post them these next days.

love, love, love,

Another illustration I made for practice.
It has inspired me to make some changes on the blog.
More to come!

Old sketches

Sorry for my lack of posts.
Finals will be officially over tomorrow so I'll have tons of time for painting,
illustrating and blogging...finally!

I made this illustration of this outfit from Blair's Atlantic Pacific blog
(one of my favorite blog) a couple months ago and it's finally up!!!

Hope you like it!

Trista @ Mercedez Benz DFashion Mexico

Sorry for the delay on uploading the rest of the pics of the Mercedez Benz DFashion Mexico but I've been having quite some boxing rounds with my internet. So now I'm experimeting with the blogger iPhone app.

Trista was the show I liked the most of the ones I had the opportunity to attend. It was a combination of a rough image and a soft and breezy one.
Neutral and earth tones and estructural cuts in contrast with ethereal white dresses in light, flowy fabrics. And the shoes!!! Where can I get a pair of those?!
