An evening with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.

This post is quite (and when I say quite I mean super) over-due, but I had these pics in the backburner and I'm dusting them off now I have some free time.

Last Valentine's Day my Fashion school organized a runway with a very special guest: Agatha Ruiz de la Prada! All the fashion design alumni had to create an outfit inspired by the designer's work. The result? An invasion of over-the-top, colorful and extremely creative garments (there even was a lit-up bird cage!). The students really outdid themselves in such a talented display, +and some of them are not even 15!

My pics aren't really good because I got to the show a little late (I got lost trying to get there oops!) but still, have a peek at the students' amazing creations. After the show there was a little cocktail in one of the museum's gallery and Ms. De La Prada greeted the young students and signed some of their garments.

The event's dress code was, obviously, colorful (it is said that Ms. de la Prada despises black) and there were some very interesting outfits at the event. Here are some pics of the runway and some colorful outfits during the cocktail.

Anna Fusoni + me!
Oh and the highlight of the night for me was meeting Anna Fusoni, a hugely important person in the Fashion Indsutry in LatinAmerica, once a winner of Vogue's Prix de Paris, worked with Diana Vreeland and established the first Fashion Week in México. Naturally, I'm a huge admirer of her work and contribution to Mexico's Fashion and it was an honor to meet her. Hopefully in the future I'll get to interview her.

What do you think of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada's work? Pretty colorful or too over the top?

Take a sip!

Illustration based on a picture on Little Plastic Horses.

I'm finally back from NYC.
Spent 10 amazing days there with my mom and my sister. (miss you sis!)
But a vacation in the middle of the semester and missing a whole week of classes
sure does have its consequences. I returned to a mountain-sized
load of homework and exams, so it's been hard breaking this constant hiatuses on the blog.
I managed to finish this illustration today to relax a bit, experimenting with the new gouache color
I bought in NYC and some glitter.
My editorial calendar for next month is almost done so
hopefully I'll be more constant on posting.
Also I have some exciting things coming up in the next weeks,
but I can't tell yet!

Hope you like the illustration!

Out with the old, in with the new.

(starring....my latest illustration)

As you may have noticed, Le Sketcherie has changed, and a little drastically.
It was time to get out with the old and in with the new, so I decided to reinvent the blog
and since this semester forecast is a little brighter on the all-nighters department I'll be able to
commit more fully to the blog.

I've spent the last couple of months working on new stuff and learning new
things and drawing techniques. And I even have a few DIY's lined up.

I like a lot better the new image of the blog, I feel that it appeals a lot more to me...
the color palette, my handwriting, everything.
On the right side you'll find links to the different social networks Le Sketcherie is in...
on tumblr + pinterest you can find a daily dose of inspiration, a huge part to
this blog because, let's be honest, inspiration is what keeps this blog running.
(so when there's a strange lack of post you know who to blame)
Also you can follow Le Sketcherie on twitter and like it on Facebook for updates and easy access.

I hope you like the new blog kiddos!
Keep posted!

Later alligators...

p.s. sorry for the bad quality pic...I'll upload better ones soon.

let it be

(watercolor, illustration by me)

A while ago one of my best friends gave one of the best advices I've ever recieved:

Let it be.

And it's not like I had never heard that before, I mean it's a Beatles song, come on, but from time to timewe need to remember it. Sometimes as much as we want to have control over a certain situation we can't, and the best we can do is to trust the universe, to let it be and to let things flow.

Everything will fall into place.

Black + Orange: fashionable or halloween over-enthusiast?

My torrid romance with orange began a few months ago. In that moment I saw that Jil Sander white top +floor-sweeping-orange-skirt I knew it was love at first sight. sigh...
Soon orange was everywhere, on the runway, on magazines, on blogs, on the streets... and as before I knew it, it was slowly infiltrating my own wardrobe. A satin blouse here, and mini skirt there, a bright, bright orange summer scarf (is there such a thing as a summer scarf?), a poppy orange nail polish...
Then the F/W collections came... and orange was still all around, but now instead of the pretty pink and kermit green, it was surrounded with a gorgeous set of jewel tones. I knew it'd be a long-lasting affair.
But still, there is one little problem. As much as I like orange, I can't come to wear it with black. I like orange and black together. I see someone wearing such combination down the street and I like it! But every single time I've tried pairing an orange + black ensemble one thought comes to mind and I can't seem to shake it off: HALLOWEEN!
How to manage wearing black and orange without looking live a halloween over-enthusiast, like one of those old ladies who decorate their homes with Halloween motifs two months in advanced?
After all, orange and black are to Halloween what red and green are to Christmas, aren't they?

Is it just silly old me with this Halloween ideas?
As the stubborn person I am I have decided to finally wear black + orange
and forget about the Halloween nonsense.
We'll se how it goes.

Does anyone like wearing orange and black together? If so, how do you wear them together?
Do tell!

Love, em.

Orange Crush

It all began with a certain Jil Sander skirt...sashaying its way down the runway, and in that moment it was obvious. Orange is the new black. For this season at least.

During the september shows orange slowly started to drench the runways like a tasty, bubbly, refreshingly cold orange crush. It was everywhere! And from poppy to fluorescent orange...

Prada

Calvin Klein

Hermés

Christopher Kane

Alexander McQueen

Or from a pink-ish tangerine to the orange of the monarch butterflies forming a McQueen dress...orange  quietly escaped during the cold winter months from the showrooms and rushed into stores, fashion blogs, and our wardrobes.

Chiara from The Blonde Salad

Head-to-toe, color blocking or just a little touch of orange to brighten an outfit, orange is the color to wear, making this season, one of the most colorful seasons in year, even brighter.

How are you wearing the Orange Crush?

D.I.Y. Sunday

Today's forecast was laziness with a few bits of boredom.

No sir, not this sunday. I decided to make a productive day out of this Sunday. So I forced myself out of bed went downtown, bought some materials and spent the afternoon making things. I made two leather clutches and a some stuff my room (which I'm re-decorating).

I won't post the decor stuff because it's not ready yet...(when my room's ready I'm doing a piece about it!) but I made this........

Ever since Andy from Style Scrapbook uploaded the DIY instructions for her yellow clutch like the ones selling in American Apparel I went completely bananas over it. Spring Fever's hitting me hard and my wardrobe is   turning to hardcore-bright colors and colorful hues. I just had to make a clutch for myself!
It was so easy, really, you can find Andy's instructions here.

It's bright, it's happy, it's yellow:)!!!

Ok. Pretend I didn't write that...

It was so easy in fact I'm making more in different sizes and colors...
Are you thinking what I'm thinking????

YES!!

Taylor Tomassi's Celine Blue Clutch!!!

Can't wait to get my hands on some blue leather to make one like this Celine's forget-me-not clutch,

Hope you had a great weekend and hope you have a great week!

Spring Illustrated.

During the first days of the year, the people of Refinery29 were all about looking forward into 2011, and still clad in winter clothes they caught the spring-fever (we all have!) and started daydreaming about Spring. Six color Trends you can't miss this 2011 as written by Refinery 29, translated into illustration, by me.

From left to right...

Pink.
(Jil Sander in the illustration)
Pantone chose pink as the color of 2011 (Honeysuckle), so expect lots of it this year.
Pink invaded the Spring/Summer collections, now it's taking over the red carpets (Claire Danes, anyone?), next our wardrobes, and then who knows...maybe even the world.

Earth Tones.
(3.1 Phillip Lim in the illustration)
Spring is coming with a a lot of bright, cheerful hues. But muted, earth tones are here to stay. At least for one more season.

Yellow.
(Proenza Schouler in the illustration)
A bright almost sheer yellow was seen all over the runways. My favorite? Proenza's see through yellow.

Orange.
(Prada in the illustration)

Orange in Prada was ge-nius. Word.

Blue.
(DVF in the illustration)

Also, there will be plenty of blue. I say go with blue pants, shoes or accessories. I'm looking for a pair of turquoise sandals myself.

White.
(Derek Lam in the illustration)

Head-to-toe white this spring. Careful with that soda.

Also, starring in this series of illustrations are 3 of the 5 spring hair trends also chosen by Refinery29 (YES! I'm a big fan!). In pink, the low-bun; in Earth Tones, the swoop and in white, the Jane-Birkin-Bangs.

What colors are you looking forward to this spring?

Ps. Illustrations made with pen, oil pastels + watercolours. Sorry for the weird lightning but due to a lack of scanner...I had to photograph them.

Obsessions

Illustration inspired by listening to Marina + The Diamonds all morning.
And my current obsession with the color turqoise and turqoise shoes. I'm craving for a pair of turqoise sandals. Meanwhile, Im happy with my turqoise nail polish.
Ok enough of the word turqoise.

xx!
