Recently in my Saturday Fashion Design classes 

I had to make a presentation about a designer of my choosing.

I had a tough time trying to decide which designer to talk about. In the end I was between Proenza Schouler, Peter Pilotto and Alexander Wang. I was going for Proenza Schouler until I remember I had recently done this illustration inspired by a photo of Alexander Wang working on a fitting for his latest collection and it stuck with me, so I decided to make my research and presentation about him. 

Alexander Wang comes from a Taiwanese-American wealthy family from California. He attented High School in San Francisco. (Random fact: he attended the same prep high school as Miss Couturable), and then moving to New York to attend Parsons The New School for Design. Alexander quit a year before graduating to launch his first pret-à-porter collection in 2007, a collection displaying an 80's vibe mixed with some glam-rock style. 

Since then he has only continued escalating in the Fashion World and Industry, now being of Contemprary Fashion favorites and such an influential designer for such a young age. He has recieved several awards from the CFDA and a couple Swarowski awards. Also, Mr. Wang develops most of his fabrics (his last collection were all custom-made fabrics) and his minor line, T by Alexander Wang, began by the quest of the perfect weathered t-shirt. 

Alexander once stated in a interview: "Anyone can get all dressed up and glamorous, but it's how people dress in their off days that's most intriguing to me" and that reflects perfectly his line. His clothes aren't about glamorous Oscar dresses, but about the Paris meets New York streetstyle look we love so much. The A. Wang look is the model off-duty look, fashionable in the perfect disarray kind of way.

Some of his biggest hits have come from the accesories department, like the Rocco Bag (The Handbag version of the Litas phenomenon for Fashion Bloggers) or the Linda Farrow Collaboration sunglasses. Personally, I think his handbags and shoes are to die for, especially in his latest collection...if only I could afford them.

Meet Sophia Blackall. An Brooklyn-based illustrator I just learn about thanks to my sister. We were riding the sub and then she spotted a Sophia's original illustration displayed on the cart we were in. Yesterday, she sent me this video. 

Sophia rides the subway for inspiration and draws the peculiar characters she sees during the journey, to later create a larger illustration of these people on the subway. 

Her style is dreamy and whimiscal, with a children book's feel to it. The subway is one of the best places for people-watching, and I'm glad someone is documenting it all!

 You really run into some interesting personas!

I'm finally back from NYC. 

Spent 10 amazing days there with my mom and my sister. (miss you sis!)

But a vacation in the middle of the semester and missing a whole week of classes

sure does have its consequences. I returned to a mountain-sized

load of homework and exams, so it's been hard breaking this constant hiatuses on the blog.

I managed to finish this illustration today to relax a bit, experimenting with the new gouache color

I bought in NYC and some glitter. 

My editorial calendar for next month is almost done so 

hopefully I'll be more constant on posting. 

Also I have some exciting things coming up in the next weeks, 

but I can't tell yet!

Miu Miu illustrated.

I have always had a thing for the 40's decade. 

I don't know why. There's something romantic and mysterious 

about them. And elegant. People back then dressed to the nines all the time.

Hats, gloves, furs, diamonds, tailored suits, perfectly applied lipstick all the time. 

People just don't dress that way anymore! 

This Miu Miu collection has been one of my favorite collections ever. 

Only Miucca could give such a refreshing twist to this decade without 

losing the elegant charge by adding glittered details and over-sizing the coin-purses-like clutches. 

The glitter was genius (I'm still lusting after the glitter sunnies)...

and what better excuse to experiment with it in my illustrations. 

I've been watching for some time the work of Katie Rodgers 

from Paper Fashion. And she has truly become one of my favorite illustrators 

and a huge inspiration for me. I love the way she incorporates glitter in her artwork, 

so I decided to give glitter a chance. And I really liked the touch it gives!

Welcome to Wonderland

If you have been keeping up with the Couture Shows that have taken place this week in Paris,

then you will surely recognize these illustrations.

This is my own rendition of Alexis Mabille's Spring Couture Wonderland, and while

it didn't get raving reviews the minute I saw the giant flower head-pieces I knew I had to draw them.

It's like the flower garden from Alice in Wonderland.

And yeah, maybe the clothes weren't so ground-breaking -nothing we've never seen before- it was the theatric air that gave the show a certain punch. Maybe it's just me and my love for theatrics (Yeah, that's why I loved Galliano) and perhaps that's why I look forward to the couture shows so much, because they're not just runways, they're real spectacles.

Hopefully one day I'll get to attend one.

A girl can dream...

Out with the old, in with the new.

As you may have noticed, Le Sketcherie has changed, and a little drastically. 

It was time to get out with the old and in with the new, so I decided to reinvent the blog 

and since this semester forecast is a little brighter on the all-nighters department I'll be able to 

commit more fully to the blog. 

I've spent the last couple of months working on new stuff and learning new 

things and drawing techniques. And I even have a few DIY's lined up. 

I like a lot better the new image of the blog, I feel that it appeals a lot more to me...

the color palette, my handwriting, everything. 

On the right side you'll find links to the different social networks Le Sketcherie is in...

on tumblr + pinterest you can find a daily dose of inspiration, a huge part to 

this blog because, let's be honest, inspiration is what keeps this blog running. 

(so when there's a strange lack of post you know who to blame)

I've been into orange and turqoise lately, and the both of them together.

les litas!

My newest illustration: a pair of turquoise litas by Jeffrey Campbell.

I'm craving so badly for a pair of litas. And even when I'd love them in black I have to be realistic and buy shoes that aren't black. Most of my heels are black. 

Turquoise would be the perfect choice. 

Or maybe a pair of glitter ones.

(sighs and throws a bill into the piggy bank)

A while ago one of my best friends gave one of the best advices I've ever recieved:

Let it be.

And it's not like I had never heard that before, I mean it's a Beatles song, come on, but from time to timewe need to remember it. Sometimes as much as we want to have control over a certain situation we can't, and the best we can do is to trust the universe, to let it be and to let things flow. 

Everything will fall into place.

Hello, hello!

I'm finally off school!!!!!

The Christmas countdown has officially begun!

I've been meaning to make a painting for my room for forever but finals hadn't let me, 

so today I finally got to do it. I had no idea what to paint (I even have an "painting inspiration" 

board on pinterest). I wanted something fashion related but something simple and not so saturated.

My rooms is quite small so I'm trying to decorate it in a way that it doesn't

make it look even smaller. (Don't even get me started on my closet.)

I ended up painting a bottle of the iconic and legendary Chanel Nº 5.

I love the bottle's design. It's really simple yet elegant. 

And I love the commercials/shortfilms for Chanel Nº 5.

This one's my favorite.

So, what do you think?? 

I spent the whole day making some other illustrations too, I'll post them these next days.

Fashion Night Out!

The countdown is finally over...Fashion Night Out is here...

and not celebrating only shopping...

celebrating that Fashion Week has finally begun!

On Friday the Spring/Summer collections will start making their way down the runways...

I can't wait to see the new collections and what fashion has in store for us for 2012. 

We're not having FNO in Guadalajara, but they are having it (for the first time!) in Mexico City. 

I would love to be able to go out to the stores and meet all the talented mexican designers that will be all over the fno circuit. 

There's a lot of talent in fashion in Mexico, but it's not that well know!

It's time for us to support it. (More on this subject soon)

Today, if you're in Mexico City at least and going to the FNO, let's shop national!

Let the fashion frenzy begin!

Me encataría poder salir a las calles y visitar las tiendas y conocer a todos los talentosos diseñadores mexicanos que van a estar por todo el circuito del fno.

Hay muchísimo talento en la moda en México, pero no es tan bien conocido!

Es hora de que lo apoyemos. (Más sobre éste tema pronto!)

the golden diamonds

A couple days ago I posted a new illustration of Doina from the Golden Diamonds...remember?

Well now Doina has made it part of her blog's new design! I couldn't be more flattered!

Being honest, I have never payed a lot of attention when it comes to luggage. Except for being a sucker for vintage suitcases or trunks I'd like to use more like a decorating motif rather than checking it into a flight. 

As much as we love to travel, my family and I, I've got to admit we are not really practical when it comes to, well, a lot of things. Traveling is one of those things. 

I can confidently say I'm one of the worst people in the whole world, no, galaxy, when it comes to packing. 

Traveling light? What is that? 

Uh-uh, everytime I pack I don't know how but I always manage to end up packing clothes like I was going away for forever. Even when I'm going away for a week!!!

Last month when I left for Paris, I left home with a huuuge suitcase, and talked my way out of paying an extra fee for my extra baggage-kilos (yay me!) but after the mandatory summer shopping (sale season....) I ended up coming home with TWO full suitcases. 

So after taking 1 train and 2 long flights in one day (about 30 hours of traveling) hauling my luggage I came to two important (and obvious) conclusions: 

Get one of those chameleon-eye-like wheeled (a.k.a. I-move-wherever-I-want-whenever-I-want-it-like) suitcases, you know, those with the wheels move independently from each other. When you think of it, it's too obvious, how come they didn't think of that when they invented wheeled suitcases?! And why on earth I don't have one of those????

I think the time has come for me to start investing in practical luggage.  

And second, you know how they say that in Fashion September is the January of the year. The new year starts now, and under that pretext I'm setting a new-new year resolution: learn to pack light!!! 

Next time I travel, I'm gonna document my adventures and findings about packing...
